The search for an Oregon nurse who went missing days after returning home from a wedding came to a tragic end when police discovered her body and charged a neighbor with murder.
Beaverton police confirmed Saturday that the body of Melissa Jubanet, 32, was found after a three-day search, just two weeks after she married Brian Lantero, of Kalihi, Hawaii.

Brian's mother, Imelda Lantero, told KHON 2 that the newlyweds were married in Hawaii on Aug. 24, then flew back to the Pacific Northwest on Aug. 31, arriving in the early hours of Sept. 1.

Imelda Lantero said the couple spent Labor Day together before Jubanet returned to work on Sept. 3. She reported to work on the 3rd but did not report to work the morning of Sept. 4.
Jubein, who worked as a nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in Southwest Portland, had coworkers, friends and family worried when she didn't come to work.
Officers responded to her residence, searched the house and determined her absence and lack of communication was “unusual and disturbing.”
“Melissa was not there,” Imelda Lantero said, “Her bag, wallet and keys were gone and her car was still in the parking lot.”
Police said officers and family members had tried to contact Jubaneh throughout the day but were unable to reach her as her mobile phone appeared to be switched off.

Authorities said after a thorough investigation, they determined one of Jubanet's neighbors, Bryce Jonathan Shubert, 27, of Beaverton, was involved in her disappearance.
Schubert was arrested and charged with Jubanet's murder, police said, and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday, Washington County officials said.
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the community members who assisted in the search for Melissa, and our deepest condolences go out to Melissa's family, friends and coworkers,” Beaverton police said in a statement.
“We acknowledge the significant public interest and concern but must not disclose any further details to preserve the integrity of the investigation,” the statement continued.

Imelda Lantero said her son is completely devastated and broken, and asked that she fly to Oregon to be with him.
“I miss her so much,” Imelda Lantero said, “I was so happy that Brian got to see her. I told him to always love her. They were happy, so happy.”
Providence St. Vincent Hospital, where Jubaneh worked, released the following statement on Saturday: To Fox 12 Regarding her death.
“We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Melissa Jubanet, a nurse and colleague at Providence St. Vincent Hospital. This is a shock to us all, and she is mourned by her colleagues. Melissa was an exceptional nurse, dedicated to Providence Mission and living our values of compassion, excellence and integrity every day,” the statement read.
The University of Portland's School of Nursing and Health Innovation, where Jubein attended and graduated, also released a statement offering its condolences.
“The School of Nursing and Health Innovation mourns the loss of Melissa Jubané, Class of 2018. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues for this unspeakable tragedy. She embodied the values of UP Pilot Nurses and she will be dearly missed by the entire SONHI community,” the school said in a statement.

“We support Melissa's loved ones and those who worked very closely with her. We appreciate all the expressions of concern from the community. Melissa was a person of God's providence and we will miss her.”
Authorities added that this is an ongoing investigation and urge anyone with information about Jubaneh's case to contact the police department at 503-526-2280.
