Indonesian authorities discovered the woman’s body inside the python on Friday, CBS News reported.
Farida, a 45-year-old mother of four from a village in South Sulawesi province, went missing on Thursday night. according to Farida was found by authorities on Friday, but when she did not return home, her husband and local villagers launched a search for her, according to CBS News. Farida’s husband was reported to have been the first to find her belongings, which immediately sparked concern among local residents.
According to the media, searchers soon found a 16-foot-long reticulated python with an abnormally swollen abdomen. Villagers decided to cut open the snake’s abdomen, revealing Farida’s body, still clothed.

“They agreed to cut open the python’s abdomen, and as soon as they did, Farida’s head was immediately visible,” village mayor Suardi Rosi said in a statement, CBS News reported. (Related: Video goes viral shows giant python dangling from rafters and grabbing possum by the throat)
The incident was recorded on graphic video. picture A video released by TMZ shows the snake being dissected in the woods. Farida was walking when the snake approached her, TMZ reports. The snake reportedly began biting her legs, then wrapped around her body, eventually suffocating her. After attacking, the snake reportedly ate her entire body, starting with her head.
The incident is at least the fifth recorded human death by a python in Indonesia since 2017, CBS News reported, citing local officials who spoke to AFP.
Reticulated pythons, which are found in Indonesia and throughout Southeast Asia, are known for their feeding method of grasping prey with their sharp, curved teeth, constricting them to death, and then eating them whole.
