Mississippi attorney accused of sneaking cell phones, other contraband items into jail

Mississippi attorney Daniel Sidney Dale was charged with trying to smuggle cell phones, cigar wrappers and other contraband into a prison while posing as a legal adviser to inmates.

Dale was charged with two counts of conspiracy and three counts of introducing contraband into a prison, according to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones.

“Attorney Dale endangered the safety and integrity of the Hinds County Detention Center and the public while serving in a trusted position responsible for the constitutional rights of arrested suspects. This investigation is ongoing and additional charges and arrests may be forthcoming,” Jones said. On W.J.T..

At least 360 Georgia prison guards have been arrested on suspicion of smuggling contraband in the past five years, according to the report.

According to the sheriff, Dale entered the facility posing as an attorney for the inmates and made several attempts to smuggle contraband into the facility.

Dale was found in possession of the contraband on Thursday and was taken into custody by authorities.

The Sheriff’s Department said further investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.

At least 360 employees in Georgia’s prison system have been arrested on contraband charges since 2018, according to a report last year.

About 80 percent of those arrested were women, most of them under the age of 30.
