Mississippi sheriff’s deputy shot, killed while responding to domestic call

The Mississippi community is lamenting the loss of sheriff's deputies after being shot dead while answering domestic calls Sunday evening.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones, 37-year-old Martin Shields, Jr., was the lieutenant of Slain in a Facebook post. I have identified it.

Shields was with the Hinds County Sheriff's Office for about nine months, but “his law enforcement career is beyond being employed at HCSO,” the sheriff said. A social media commemorative post showed previous employment at the Mississippi Department of Corrections and the Jackson Police Department.

According to the Jackson Fallen Firefighters Memorial Foundation, Shields' father retired from HCSO as captain.

Limited details are available, but Jones said hours ago that there was a “very serious situation” going on in the 15,000 block of Midway Road, Terry, Mississippi, about 15 miles southwest of Jackson. Ta.

The two deputies, Shield and an unidentified Hinds County deputy, had responded to domestic calls at the residence at the aforementioned address. Jones said he heard other deputies came across the radio and wanted them to “fire a shot” and headed for the scene at Midway Road.

The “Be On The Loak” alert was issued Sunday evening to 42-year-old Eric Brown, who “wanted to ask questions about the situation on Midway Road,” and was deemed armed and dangerous. The alert was cancelled before 10pm when police said there was no more aggressive threat.

A Facebook post at 10:19pm announced the death of the aide, saying that “unidentified black male subject thought to be related to the phone” died inside a home on Midway Road. It turns out there is. It is not stated whether the person is brown or not.

The investigation into the shooting remains active and is supported by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

Jones wrote a heartfelt homage to the Shield on his professional Facebook page early Monday morning, sharing that the two men had just responded to the encapsulated boat earlier in the day. He said he paged the shield several times without answering while answering the “firing” call.

“The adjutant who called it “shooting” was in survival mode due to the situation, but still did very heroic acts. Without a response from the fallen agent, my heart sank. Just before I arrived, I learned that he had been shot and clearly passed away,” Jones wrote.

He said the Shield “dead the hero” and “while responding to a call for services to help those in need.”

“He fulfilled his mission and God-given mission on earth. His family, his friends, the many lives he touched, and we all prepared for the final salute. “We pray for men and women of HCSO,” he wrote. “I never imagined or prepared to tell my family that their lieutenant wouldn't come home from their mission, but tragically, I realized I was in that situation late tonight. Ta.”
