Missouri Congressman on Chiefs parade shooting: ‘It’s a sad day for Kansas City’

Rep. Mark Alford (R-Missouri) said it was a “sad day” for Kansas City, Missouri, following Wednesday’s shooting after the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory parade.

“My daughter and son were in the parade and left before the shooting happened. It’s a sad day for Kansas City. This was supposed to be a day to celebrate, but we still remember one death. and others who were injured,” Alford said on “The Hill on NewsNation” Wednesday evening.

“This year ended in tragedy, and my heart goes out to that community. Yes, it’s a problem of human violence. How do you solve that? That’s a great question,” Alford added. Ta.

At least one person was killed and more than 20 others were injured in a shooting after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade on Wednesday. According to police, eight children were among the injured.

Police said three people have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

Alford said he had planned to participate in the parade as well.

“My daughter and son, we’re all big Chiefs fans. We watched the game together. I was scheduled to be in the parade, but I’m back today to work here in Washington. “We just had a moment of silence on the floor,” he said.

He also said it would be difficult to secure a venue for the parade due to the large number of fans coming to celebrate.

“There’s a million people crammed into this, and it’s essentially a punch bowl. It’s impossible to secure that area. We’ve got a million people crammed into this to get in there to celebrate a Chiefs win.” “You can’t pass through a metal detector,” he said.

Other lawmakers and President Biden issued statements Wednesday condemning the shooting, and many Democrats are using it as another reason to push for gun control legislation.
