MIT Students Take Part in Israeli Independence Day Celebration

Students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) celebrated Israel’s upcoming Independence Day next to an anti-Israel camp on campus.

on video Posted According to Mr. X, students were seen listening to speakers who remained hopeful that the encampment would be cleared “in the near future.” Several people in the crowd were wearing Israeli flags.

“We will see this encampment collapse in the near future,” the speaker said. “That’s our goal.”

The speaker then invited students in the camp to “celebrate” with the group, adding that they were “about to be suspended.”

“All of you in the camp are welcome here to celebrate with us, the State of Israel,” the Speaker said. “Suspensions are coming up, some have been suspended or expelled. So, for now, if you still want to do it, come celebrate with us.”

Massachusetts Institute of Technology President Melissa Nobles sent a letter to students on Monday, threatening them with “interim suspension” if they do not leave the campus by 2:30 p.m. Monday.

In her letter, Nobles said the encampment, set up on April 21, “violates MIT policy.”

Although most of the tents at the encampment were removed, protesters regained the encampment later that night.

In a statement released Monday, MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Executive Vice President and Treasurer Glenn Scholl, and Nobles wrote:

At midday, Student Life staff handed students a written advisory stating that they would face disciplinary action if they did not leave the encampment by 2:30 p.m. By 2:30, most students had left the enclosed tent area. Five remained, and many students gathered just outside the camp.

Around that time, large numbers of outside demonstrators arrived due to social media calls from area students to join the students and a planned public protest. Cambridge Police and State Police were also present and assisted MIT Police with crowd control. Around 6pm, one person jumped the fence surrounding the remaining tents, causing a wave that quickly breached the area.

Lords issued letter in response to protesters reoccupying encampment Inform They said “dozens of interim suspensions and referrals to disciplinary committees” had been made.
