Senator Mitch McConnell Hospitalized for Testing
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was admitted to a hospital on Monday night for testing after showing symptoms resembling the flu, as reported.
Andrew Desiderio, a senior Congressional reporter for Punchbowl News, tweeted that McConnell’s spokesperson, David Popp, stated that the senator’s “prognosis is excellent.”
Popp explained that McConnell experienced flu-like symptoms over the weekend, prompting the precautionary hospital visit for testing. “His prognosis is good, and we are grateful for the excellent care he is receiving,” he added.
Additionally, Popp mentioned that McConnell remains in regular communication with his staff and is eager to return to his duties in the Senate.
It appears that McConnell missed Senate votes on both Monday and Tuesday, according to reports.
In an earlier incident reported by Breitbart News’ Hannah Knudsen in October, McConnell had fallen while walking in the basement of the Russell Senate Office Building, where he engaged with members of the Sunrise Movement about immigration policies.
Witness accounts describe McConnell, who is now 83, walking through the basement when he was confronted by activists. During a discussion, he grabbed the arm of a nearby individual, which led to an awkward moment when both ended up falling. Despite this, McConnell managed to wave to cameras and walked away with assistance on either side.
This incident was not the first, as he had previously fallen at the Capitol in December 2024 after lunch at a Senate Republican Conference. McConnell has also exhibited moments of hesitation during interactions with reporters; in August 2023, when asked about running for re-election, he chuckled and seemed to freeze, leaving his response unclear.
