Mitch McConnell announces Senate retirement: Report

Former Republican leader Mitch McConnell reportedly reportedly announcement Thursday, he will not seek reelection to the Senate in 2026.

In recent years, the 83-year-old senator has suffered from multiple health fears, and many have called for him to resign. Over the past few years, McConnell was seen by a doctor for multiple falls, frozen during press conferences, and even found in a wheelchair.

Despite his years of service, McConnell has become a thorn on the Republican side.

McConnell has been in the Senate for more than 40 years since being first elected in 1984. McConnell was also the longest serving leader in the role for over 17 years.

McConnell announced he would retire from serving as leader in 2024, and was eventually taken over by Republican Sen. John Tune of South Dakota.

Despite his years of service, McConnell has become a thorn on the Republican side.

McConnell has historically had a rift with President Donald Trump for many years. Recently, the former leader voted against three picks in Trump's cabinet. National Intelligence Director Pete Hegses, National Director of Tarsi Gabbard and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

It is becoming increasingly clear that Republicans have made McConnell bigger, and he appears to be taking notes.
