Mitch McConnell's Team Reports That His Health Is Getting Better. So We Requested an Interview With Him to Confirm.

Requests for Interviews with Senator McConnell

Multiple media sources, including the Daily Caller News Foundation, have reached out to Senator Mitch McConnell’s office for interviews following his assurance that he is doing well in his recovery and remains active in Senate duties.

DCNF specifically requested a video interview, highlighting that the public hasn’t heard from McConnell directly, and there hasn’t been any recent update on his health. A spokesperson indicated they would retain the request for future consideration and noted other news organizations had also expressed interest.

“Keep your interview requests on hand for many others. Thank you for your interest,” the spokesperson conveyed.

McConnell’s office stated he is on the mend and is continuing his work from the hospital. “Senator McConnell appreciates the tremendous support he has received during his hospital stay,” the spokesperson remarked, adding, “He is improving and engaging with his staff regarding Kentucky and Senate matters while Congress is out of session.”

In a letter, Kentucky’s Democratic Governor Andy Beshear urged McConnell to openly communicate about his health situation.

Senate leaders John Thune and John Barrasso, along with CNN political commentator Scott Jennings, reported having a brief private conversation with McConnell. After releasing a statement that mirrored their discussion, McConnell’s staff confirmed the exchange in an email to reporters.

On social media, reactions to McConnell’s health appeared quite uniform, with many noting that discussions lasted roughly 20 minutes and ranged over several topics, including the Maine Senate race. They noted that McConnell seemed engaged and eager to return to his duties.

On June 14, McConnell was found unconscious at his Washington, D.C. home and was subsequently hospitalized after paramedics provided CPR due to an apparent cardiac arrest.

Although McConnell’s staff mentioned he was collaborating with them on various issues, there have been multiple inquiries regarding his health that have gone unanswered. Interestingly, neighbors have reportedly not seen any visitors at his residence since his hospitalization.

McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, recently traveled to China and mentioned that his hospitalization does not ensure a quick return to his usual activities. Speculation about his condition seems to have grown, especially with his youngest daughter, Porter, reportedly disabling her social media accounts.

Senator Mike Lee from Utah expressed that he had no information regarding McConnell’s health and suggested that many senators were similarly uninformed.

McConnell had been in the ICU for several days earlier this year, dealing with flu-like symptoms, and during that time, staff frequently assisted him as he navigated the Capitol.

Notably, McConnell has experienced a few falls and two instances of freezing up while on camera in July 2023.
