MLB news: Ex-Dodger Julio Urías suspended until All-Star break

Juliourias, the Los Angeles Dodgers and former NL champion and ERA leader World Series champion in 2020, was suspended throughout this year's All-Star break for violating MLB's domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policies, Commissioner Rob Manfred announced Friday.

Urias agent Scott Bolas said the pitcher had not issued a statement.

The 28-year-old left-handed pitcher has not played since September 1, 2023.

Urias refused to admit the contest to one count of misdemeanor domestic batteries in May. The penalty was Urias' second under policy after 20 games suspended in 2019. MLB said He will be resurrected from the restricted list on July 17th.

He was arrested outside the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on September 3, 2023 and participated in a major league soccer game. The Ministry of Public Safety said that the unpublished names of the physical altercation between the man and the woman were contacted by someone who had not been publicly disclosed.

Urias was initially charged with felony of serious injuries to a spouse or householder and was placed on administrative leave by MLB on September 6th.

Urias admitted the contest to one count of misdemeanor household batteries on May 1st the following year, with four other misdemeanor fees removed.

Iver Pine, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city law firm, said Urias was placed on 36 months of summary probation and ordered to complete 30 days of community work. Urias also needs to complete a 52-week domestic violence counseling course, have no weapons, no weapons or violence, pay compensation to the victim and comply with the protection order.

“After reviewing all the evidence available, Urias has concluded that discipline is appropriate,” baseball committee member Rob Manfred said in a statement Friday.

MLB said URías was evaluated by the Joint Policy Committee established by the MLB and the Players Association and agreed to comply with any of its recommendations.

Urias became a free agent after the 2023 World Series, after his $4.7 million one-year contract expired.

Urias was also arrested in May 2019 on suspicion of a household battery. While he was suspended by MLB, he was not charged by a city of LA attorney on the condition that he completed a 52-week domestic violence counseling program.

In eight major league seasons, all along with the Dodgers, Urias is 60-25 with a 3.11 ERA. He led the National League in 2022 with ERA 2.16 and was a member of the team that won the 2020 World Series, earning 4-0 in six postseason appearances with saves and 1.17 ERA.
