MLB Umpire Hit in the Head by Line Drive

The scary scene unfolded on Wednesday in Major League Baseball (MLB) was unfolded as the umpire Hunter Wendelstead of the 1st base. He was hit in the head on a line drive and was forced to leave the game.

The incident occurred at the top of seven innings of the Twins Mets game when New York’s Tyrone Taylor hit the first baseline. Side of the head.

Players, referees and medical staff quickly competed for Wendelstet’s assistance.

Thankfully, Wendelstead had received assistance from others, but he was able to get up and leave the field. No official words have been given as to the status of the referee, but after the game, Mets manager Karos Mendoza said he had heard Wendelstead was “alright.”

Baseline 1 and 3 Baseline baseball referees do not wear helmets. It is fair to suspect that there is a call to revisit that policy after his incident. In the past, many have opposed the possibility of wearing helmets on mumets out of fear of obscuring their eyesight.
