It's been a long time since the MLB Field of Dreams game came to fruition. First, people had to sit through the movie Field of Dreams and decide it was worth basing an entire actual sporting event on it. And even when MLB decided to go ahead with the game in 2020…COVID-19 had other ideas.
It's 2021, and the game at the Field of Dreams finally reaches the bottom of the ninth inning… and it's a pretty spectacular moment. Yankees vs. White Sox, and Chicago's Tim Anderson is up to bat with a chance to end the game with a walk-off home run.
There's a lot to take from that statement. You know the movie, the event, the venue, the glitches and delays. You know the corn in the outfield and the string of home runs that disappeared into the cornstalks. And you know Anderson, the White Sox star who made big plays, spoke his mind and demanded a spotlight on issues MLB would rather ignore. But before we see what he can do, let's back up.
