Conor McGregor’s Return to the UFC Octagon Remains Uncertain

It’s been almost four years since Conor McGregor last stepped into the UFC Octagon. He last fought Dustin Poirier on July 10, 2021.

McGregor was scheduled for a match against Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but that fight was unexpectedly called off due to a broken toe. It’s been quite a while, and since then, McGregor hasn’t returned to the ring.

UFC legend Georges St. Pierre expressed his hope for McGregor’s comeback, stating, “When Conor fights, it’s good for sports; it brings in more viewers than anyone else in this arena.” He emphasized that McGregor is the top name in the sport, and his return would be beneficial for everyone involved. If it makes McGregor happy, then that’s what really matters.

In April, McGregor hinted at his conditions for a comeback, suggesting he would only return if fights were staged in a stadium setting.

However, UFC President Dana White had previously voiced concerns about hosting fights in stadiums. Just before UFC 306, he mentioned that a stadium event could detract from the fan experience due to production challenges. White emphasized that the quality of the live and television experience is his primary focus, rather than simply accommodating larger crowds.

Indeed, UFC 306 took place in Las Vegas, but White indicated that it could be the last of its kind. There’s a sense of anticipation about McGregor’s eventual return, but the specifics remain unclear.
