Announced by model Gigi Hadid, apology Misleading accusations she made about Israel’s abuse of Palestinian children sparked an intense backlash on social media.
Hadid posted the bizarre claims from the video to her nearly 80 million followers on Instagram.
The article states, “Israel is the only country in the world that keeps children as prisoners of war.”
“Years and years before October 7, 2023, there were abductions, rapes, humiliations, tortures, and murders of Palestinians.”
The post has since been deleted.
Critics pointed out that the Palestinian used in the story was Ahmed Manasra, the boy who was videotaped stabbing an Israeli man with his cousin in 2015 when he was 12 years old. Manasura’s cousin was shot dead by police, and Manasura was arrested and later convicted of attempted murder.
Posted by Hadid long apology on the same Instagram account on Tuesday.
“As a person of Palestinian descent, the constant heartbreaking news and footage coming out of Gaza is distressing and often overwhelming. The true story of the suffering that Palestinians have endured and continue to endure. Sharing is important to me, but this weekend I shared it without fact-checking or thinking deeply before reposting it,” she wrote.
“I wanted to show how international law is being undermined by the Israeli government,” she continued. “With this case, I was trying to highlight that Palestinian children arrested by the IDF are often not afforded the same rights as Israeli children accused of the same crime. .Unfortunately, I used the wrong example to make that point. That’s a shame.”
Although she continued to criticize Israel, she admitted that she had made a mistake by posting false information.
“I do not support the spread of misinformation and have always condemned the use of the Free Palestine movement as a justification for anti-Semitism,” Hadid wrote.
The 28-year-old also made headlines in 2016 when she mocked then-first lady Melania Trump in a derogatory manner.
