MILWAUKEE — Mohamed Diawara Shines in Knicks Win
Mohamed Diawara received an important call on Friday and seized the chance to shine.
The rookie, who has been sharing minutes with fellow rookie Jeremy Sochan, managed to regain his pre-All-Star break rhythm by scoring 10 points, including two out of three three-pointers, in the Knicks’ 127-98 victory over the Bucks.
Diawara posted an impressive plus-25 rating in just 22 minutes, a notable performance following a stint of three games with limited playing time.
During those games, Sochan had moved in front of Diawara in the rotation, which is crucial since Coach Mike Brown typically relies on nine players. On this occasion, Diawara reclaimed the ninth spot.
“Everyone has been saying to stay ready,” he noted. “The players, the staff—everyone. Your first year as a rookie is tricky; things don’t always go smoothly. So, you just have to be patient and wait for your opportunity.”
On the other hand, Sochan had a tough outing, scoring just two points and grabbing two rebounds during five minutes of play late in the game.
“They’re like the 10th and 9th guys, whatever you want to say,” Coach Brown remarked. “I’ll figure things out as we go, but everyone has to stay prepared.”
Meanwhile, Karl-Anthony Towns has been the subject of trade talks regarding a move to Milwaukee since the summer. His salary aligns closely with that of Giannis Antetokounmpo, adding fuel to the rumors.
Depending on how the rest of the season unfolds and what happens with Antetokounmpo on the trade front, Towns’ name could resurface in discussions.
He mentioned that even though he was taken aback by the trade from Minnesota to New York in 2024, he has chosen not to dwell on it. “You don’t need to change your lifestyle drastically just because of one event,” Towns explained. “Life is challenging no matter the circumstances, and I intend to remain true to myself. I will continue honing my skills and developing as a person.”
“I’ll navigate life on my terms. That’s what’s worked for me thus far. I have a lovely fiancée and a wonderful family. It’s not just about basketball; maintaining my focus and motivation every day has been key.”
