On Sunday, 50.46% of Moldovans voted in favor of joining the EU in a referendum, according to the Eastern European nation's Central Election Commission.
“The referendum asked voters whether they wanted to change the wording of this country's constitution,” said the Guardian's Russia correspondent. Peter Sauer say michael safi. “The wording will be changed to make EU membership the country's main strategic objective.”
The referendum campaign was plagued by allegations of Russian interference. The Moldovan government has accused the Russian government of trying to dissuade voters from supporting the move towards the EU.
“It's all about spreading misinformation through Telegram and social media,” Piotr said. “We organized protests, we trained protesters in Russia, we sent them back to Moldova. And I think the most direct impact was just crude vote-buying. Moldovan officials say that Russia was involved in the election.” He said he spent more than 100 million euros.
