Good Golly, Miss Molly!
A small pink poodle named Molly was rescued by local police from the Passey River in New Jersey after the puppy escaped its owner and fell into the frigid waters on Monday afternoon.
The hours of search and rescue began around 11am when police were notified that the 7-pound puppy had run freely from his Astor Lane home and then ran through the busy road before running through the busy road. I shared my story on Instagram.
But Molly didn't want to be caught despite multiple attempts by responding officers.
“After the search, they eventually found a pink poodle, but it was difficult to catch the dog as Molly let them get away several times on the riverbank,” police said.
“The pursuit ended when the dog fled towards the riverbank near River Drive and Kip Avenue.”
Police said that when the dyed dog leapt into the bitter waterway and began paddling towards the small island between Garfield and Clifton near Lake Dundee.
After summoning reinforcements from the Clifton and Garfield fire stations, authorities deployed boats and specialized equipment to find Molly on the island around 6:38pm.
Molly is reunited with her safe owner, who believes the pink colour helped police find furry companions.
“The colour helped, it's a plant-based vegan pet dye,” says Sandra Carto Roudon, owner of Molly. Told to ABC 7 News.
“Thank you to the rescue personnel at Garfield Police Station.
