A family in California is desperately seeking answers after their daughter and her eight-month-old baby went missing while they were out to buy baby formula.
Whisper Owen, 36, and her infant daughter, Sandra McCarty, vanished on July 15 after visiting a doctor in Fresno.
“I don’t know—it’s like being stuck between anger and complete helplessness,” expressed a worried grandmother, Vicki Torres, to KCRA. “I’m just scared. Really scared.”
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office stated that the last known location for the mother and child was a Silver 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer, recorded in Atwater, which is northwest of Fresno.
According to Torres, her daughter had postponed a longer trip just to pick up some baby formula in Atwater.
“She just needed to grab a can because she was almost out,” Torres said.
Owen’s partner reported her and the baby missing when they didn’t return home that night.
Owen had been seen last driving the 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer while heading out for the formula.
The family’s concern is growing, with Torres describing the situation regarding her daughter and granddaughter as “terrifying.”
“I just want to find them before it’s too late,” said Andrea McCarty, Sandra’s sister.
“Her car hasn’t shown up on any traffic cameras, and her phone seems to be off,” McCarty added. “It’s just a nightmare thinking about all the horrible things that could happen.”
The family believes Owen wouldn’t just run away with the baby, as they enjoy a stable family life and she has not abandoned her other three children.
McCarty mentioned they drove to Atwater to search for any clues and are urging the police to ramp up their efforts to locate the missing mother and daughter.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has not responded to requests for comments regarding the situation.
