Authorities say a teenage girl was found dead in Iowa hours after her mother and sister saw the suspect “covered in blood” riding a scooter.
Michelle Luna Jackson, 17, was reported missing from her small hometown of Farnhamville late Sunday, prompting her mother and sister to rush out to search for her. KCCI reported.
During the search, the pair came across Nathaniel Beavers-McGivney, who was “visibly covered in blood” and carrying some of the missing girl's belongings, including the scooter, according to court documents obtained by the outlet.
According to court documents, Bevers-McGivney refused to tell officers why he was covered in blood and only asked to speak with an attorney.
He was transported to the Carroll County Jail as the search for the boy, who was still missing at the time, continued.
Authorities say Jackson's body was discovered in a field shortly before 9 a.m. Monday.
The location of the bodies suggests Bevers-McGivney deliberately hid them to conceal a crime, the complaint states.
The boy's cause of death has not been released. Her obituary stated: She died as a result of a “senseless act of violence.”
Beavers McGivney was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and criminal injury to a corpse (failure to disclose known location).
He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 4.
Luna Jackson was a senior at Southeast Valley High School, according to her obituary. A private funeral is scheduled for Thursday at Gauley Funeral Home.
