A woman in India’s Karnataka state was charged Saturday with allegedly throwing her 6-year-old son with special needs into a canal, where he was reportedly half eaten by a crocodile.

The couple appears to have frequently argued over the victim, Vinod, who has been deaf and mute since birth. Savitri claimed that Ravi repeatedly told her to kill her son.

“An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of the six-year-old’s death,” the newspaper said, adding that officers were still investigating what happened.
