Mo'ne Davis auditioning for a women's professional baseball league

Former Little League sensation Mo’ne Davis is making a return to baseball.

The 24-year-old will take part in a new women’s professional baseball league at Nationals Park in Washington, DC, from August 22-25.

She’ll be testing her skills as a pitcher, at second base, shortstop, and center field.

After stepping away in 2020, she feels it’s time to give the game another shot.

“I enjoy experimenting with different positions,” Davis mentioned in a recent interview. “I think it’s important to ask yourself, ‘Why not give it a go? Why not contribute to the league’s growth?’ I’m not feeling pressured by age or anything— I’ve been playing for years, so I thought, why not?”

Davis joins 600 other women, with only 150 making it through the initial draft for six teams. The league is set to commence in the summer of 2026 and marks the first professional women’s baseball league in the U.S. since the National Girls Professional Baseball League folded in 1954.

She first made waves at just 13 during the 2014 Little League World Series, representing Taney Little League in Pennsylvania.

In her first game, she made history as the first girl to achieve a victory, leading her team to a 4-0 win against Tennessee.

This success thrust her into the limelight, making her quite a recognized figure.

“I never expected to be viewed as a role model in this day and age; I just try to be myself,” she reflected during her little league days.

Her groundbreaking performances at the Little League World Series earned her a spot on the cover of sports magazines, and her jersey was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

After that, she played softball at Hampton University, graduating in 2023, with an impressive .327 batting average and 47 hits over two seasons.
