Montenegro Considers ‘Complete’ Gun Ban After 12 Shot Dead

Montenegro's National Security Council on Friday considered new gun regulations, including a “total” ban on guns, following the New Year's Day attack that killed 12 people.

Martinovic was using a 9mm gun and police believe he fired a total of 37 shots, based on shell casings found at various locations where Martinovic fired.

Montenegro is a Balkan country with a population of approximately 620,000 people and is “sixth in the world in the number of illegal weapons owned per capita.'' Nevertheless, post observed Montenegro has “relatively few mass shootings.”

Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said in a post on X that the National Security Council would consider “a complete ban on gun ownership,” among other restrictions. AP report It shows the council instead opted for “severe” penalties for illegal gun owners.

Regarding illegal gun owners, Spajic said, “There is no mercy for these people. They are going to end up in prison.”

Another mass shooting occurred in Montenegro in August 2022, killing 10 innocent people.
