Brooklyn Shooting Claims Infant Life

Authorities have charged two men in connection with a shooting in Brooklyn they are classifying as “gang-related.” The shooting tragically resulted in the death of a 7-month-old baby girl. Surveillance footage caught the suspects attempting to escape on a moped, only to collide with a car while driving the wrong way.

The video shows them being thrown from the moped upon impact and landing roughly on the sidewalk. One of them, trying to recover belongings scattered during the crash, can be seen momentarily stumbling to his feet.

The infant, identified as Kaori Patterson Moore, was with her mother, who was pushing her in a stroller when gunfire erupted. Kaori’s father and 2-year-old brother also were present and the family sought refuge in a nearby warehouse to stay safe from the barrage of bullets.

Sadly, Kaori was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local hospital with serious injuries from the incident. The NYPD announced that 21-year-old Amri Green has been identified as the suspected instigator of the shooting, reportedly linked to a gang operating in Brooklyn. Investigators surmise that Kaori’s father may have been the intended target of the attack.

Green, who was on the moped as a passenger, sustained a broken leg from the accident. He later faced arrest on unrelated domestic violence charges.

The police revealed that Green has been charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. Following his hospitalization, he was taken into custody and will be arraigned soon.

In a related development, the second suspect, 18-year-old Matthew Rodriguez, was arrested in Pennsylvania. He was recognized in the surveillance footage and was apprehended by detectives from a task force linked to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Interestingly, the gun used in the shooting hasn’t been recovered yet, though authorities reported finding two shell casings related to the case.

NYPD Chief Jessica Tisch expressed her outrage at the incident during a recent press conference, describing it as “a truly soul-shaking tragedy.” As a mother herself, she couldn’t fully convey the grief the family must be experiencing and emphasized the profound impact of such violence on the community.
