More Americans approve of Trump 2.0 transition than first time around: Survey

A new Gallup poll finds that 51 percent of Americans approve of the way President-elect Trump is handling the presidential transition.

This number is slightly higher than in December 2016, when 48% said they felt positively about the Trump transition, compared to 48% who said they felt negatively. .

In the latest Gallup poll, 44% disapprove of the transition.

Still, Trump's 51% support for the transition pales in comparison to some other presidents.

68% approved of how President Biden handled the 2020 transition, while 83% supported Barack Obama's December 2008 transition after winning the election.

In January 2001, former President George W. Bush's approval rating for the presidential transition was 65%, and former President Bill Clinton's approval rating for the presidential transition in December 1992 was 67%.

Gallup noted that President Trump's approval ratings have increased this year compared to 2016 and 2017, largely due to Republican support.

The poll found that 97% of Republicans approve of President Trump's handling of the transition, more than 10 points higher than in December 2016, when 86% approved.

Independents' approval rating for President Trump's handling of the transition is slightly higher than during his first term, at 47% now compared to 46% in 2016.

Gallup said President Trump's approval rating among voters is lower than other president-elects, as more than 59% of independents support other presidential transitions.

Polls show that Democrats are less likely to support President Trump's transition, with his approval rating now at 10%, compared to 17% when he was first president.

The Gallup poll was conducted from December 2nd to 18th among 1,003 adults aged 18 and over nationwide. The margin of error is 4 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
