Senator Tommy Tuberville Supports New Prisons
Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has voiced his support for building additional prisons. He recently spoke about the tragic murder of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska from North Carolina and discussed potential actions politicians could take to combat crime across the U.S.
“This issue isn’t confined to blue states or cities. Even in red states, you’ve got blue mayors at the helm. If you dig into the statistics, it reveals a broader problem—there seems to be a lack of respect for the rule of law,” he remarked.
He expressed confusion about funding allocation, stating, “I don’t understand where the money’s going. It doesn’t seem to be directed toward law enforcement. They keep saying they’ll refund the police. As Governor of Alabama, I plan to visit every city, regardless of whether the mayor is a Democrat or Republican. I’m asking, what do you need? Are your judges tough on crime? Do you need more police officers or updated training? We’re pushing for the federal government to deploy national security resources to reclaim control,” he asserted.
“If a community isn’t safe, then what’s the point? The main purpose of this country is to ensure freedom and safety. We have to maintain control over that.”
He added, “We’re going to implement mandatory sentencing for first-time offenders of serious crimes, particularly sexual offenses—certainly not for minor infractions like speeding or shoplifting,” he noted.
“Currently, we’re in the process of constructing two prisons in Alabama. There’s a lot of pushback against prison construction; taxpayers often feel it’s a waste of their money. But it’s something we need to do. If we keep building new facilities, we’ll need to fill them,” he explained.
“We cannot tolerate lawlessness on our streets. That simply cannot be allowed. If we let this slide, we’ll lose control even faster. Police officers are leaving the force, and it’s a concerning trend. What can we do about that?”
