Concerns Over FBI Surveillance of GOP Senators
Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) stated on Monday that the FBI, under President Biden, is allegedly focusing on Republican senators including Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Marcia Blackburn (R-Tenn.), and Representative Mike Kell (R-Tenn.). Reports indicate that the FBI gathered private data from nine GOP congressional members.
Grassley commented on X, claiming that this situation demonstrates “Biden FBI Weaponization = Worse than Watergate.”
Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), also cited in the document, remarked on the situation, saying, “We were being watched simply for being Republicans… That should shock every American.” He described the surveillance as a “blatant political persecution” and an “outrageous abuse of power.”
This monitoring was part of the FBI’s “Arctic Frost” probe into the 2020 election, which began in April 2022 and was later assigned to Special Counsel Jack Smith. The probe eventually led to charges against former President Trump in August 2023.
Details of the surveillance targeting GOP lawmakers were outlined in a document dated September 27, 2023, though it’s unclear when the actual monitoring occurred.
In a separate statement, former President Trump criticized Special Counsel Jack Smith, calling him “Crazy Jack Smith” and labeling him a “real sleazebag!!!”
Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) expressed his astonishment at a committee hearing, stating, “I think this is breathtaking,” and urged for a hearing to address the issue without delay.
Johnson, during a GOP press briefing, recalled similar targeting he faced during the Obama administration, emphasizing the recurrence of such actions against him and Grassley.
Meanwhile, FBI Director Kash Patel stated, “Today, the abuse of power ends. Under my leadership, the FBI will bring truth and accountability and will never be weaponized against the American people again.”
