Trump Administration Highlights Election System Issues
On Thursday night, President Donald Trump made public a document outlining significant issues within the U.S. election system. Notably, it claims that some foreign individuals are illegally registered to vote.
This document, which centers on non-citizen voting, was uploaded to the White House website. Findings from various investigations by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) suggest that over 250,000 foreign nationals are unlawfully registered to vote in states like California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Nevada.
According to the document, “State election officials in California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Nevada have been alerted to this serious national security concern, and DHS is prepared to help identify and eliminate ineligible voters.”
The investigation is set to expand to additional states. Furthermore, DHS is collaborating with the Department of Justice to review voter files obtained under the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 and the Help America Vote Act of 2002.
The document emphasizes enhancements to the SAVE system under the Trump administration, which aims to facilitate states’ efforts in identifying and removing foreign nationals from voter lists.
According to the document, “In the brief time since the enhanced SAVE system was made available, 10 states have completed processing their voter lists.”
As of June 22, 2026, a total of 25 states have processed over 68 million registration records using the SAVE system. This has allowed states to identify more than 400,000 deceased registrants and over 28,000 noncitizens who were unlawfully registered to vote.
Recently, Judge Sparkle Skunanan, appointed by former President Joe Biden to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, issued a ruling preventing the Trump administration from utilizing a streamlined version of the SAVE system.
The document concludes by stating, “As DHS starts to address the detrimental impacts of the Biden administration’s open border policies, a clear pattern is appearing. States prioritizing foreign interests over American interests have a disproportionately high number of noncitizens on their voter rolls.”
