Justice Department Indicts Members of Torren de Aragua Gang
Officials revealed this week that since taking office, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has indicted hundreds of members and associates of the Torren de Aragua gang. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced late Monday that over 25 individuals linked to this group, including some who entered the U.S. during the Biden administration, have been charged as part of a nationwide crackdown.
The charges primarily involve gun and drug trafficking. In the operation, authorities confiscated upwards of 80 firearms, around 18 kilograms of various drugs, including fentanyl, and more than $100,000 in cash.
Blanche described the action as part of a concerted effort to dismantle a violent criminal network. He emphasized the Trump administration’s commitment to enhancing public safety and eradicating illegal trafficking operations.
A recent DOJ press release provided details on specific charges stemming from the operation. For instance, two Venezuelans who arrived under previous immigration policies are facing charges related to firearm trafficking, one of whom is additionally charged with distributing a drug known as Tusi, which contains ketamine and MDMA. Allegedly, these individuals sold firearms to undercover agents, including ones with obliterated serial numbers.
In Nashville, five defendants, linked to a TdA offshoot called “Anti-Tren,” were charged with involvement in drug and firearms trafficking. Arrested in Tennessee, these defendants face multiple charges, and among them, three are reportedly illegal aliens. Investigations revealed that the group has been engaged in illegal operations in Tennessee and other regions for some time. Authorities conducted various undercover operations that led to the seizure of numerous firearms, excessive ammunition, large amounts of cash, and various illegal drugs.
Additionally, three illegal aliens suspected of having connections to TdA have been charged with conspiracy related to controlled substances. Allegations state that these individuals helped facilitate substantial drug and firearm sales, with significant items seized during their arrests.
Overall, more than 260 members and associates of the Torren de Aragua gang have been indicted since President Trump assumed office in January 2023.
Reports suggest that the Biden administration has released many members of the gang into the U.S. interior under its catch-and-release policies. Recent data indicated that over 600 members of Torren de Aragua resided in the country, raising concerns among experts about the actual numbers, suggesting many more may still be present following four years of Biden’s policies.
