Detroit Lions Safety Morris Norris Recovering from Concussion
ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Detroit Lions safety Morris Norris, who had to be taken off the field by ambulance during last week’s preseason game, is doing well with his concussion protocols, according to coach Dan Campbell.
“We’re making sure he’s on track for the next 10 to 14 days, then we’ll reevaluate,” Campbell noted. “That’s definitely good news.”
Norris suffered the injury during a game against the Falcons that ended prematurely. After spending Friday night in a hospital in Atlanta, he returned to Detroit on Saturday and was back at the Lions’ facility on Sunday.
“It was uplifting to see him back; everyone was excited,” Campbell said. “When something like that happens, you’re on edge. It’s tough to watch a teammate go down and not know how serious it is.”
In a social media update on Saturday, Norris assured fans he was alright and expressed gratitude for the support. He had been in stable condition after receiving care from a medical professional for about 20 minutes at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
At 24 years old, Norris was injured in the game while trying to tackle a Falcons player running over Nathan Carter. The impact caused his head to snap back awkwardly.
Following the injury, players from both teams showed solidarity by forming circles on the field, holding hands out of respect and concern.
Campbell and Atlanta’s coach Raheem Morris decided not to resume the game after discussing the situation with officiating crew member Sean Hochurri.
“We talked with Sean, who let us know the game was still active. We agreed to kneel and let him know we wouldn’t proceed,” Campbell said. “He understood, and that’s how the game ended.”
Norris, a standout from Fresno State, played in the playoffs as a rookie in 2024 after appearing in just two regular-season games. He’s currently competing for safety roster spots alongside Lauren Strickland and Ian Kennelly, working behind All-Pro Kirby Joseph and Pro Bowler Brian Branch.
This week, the Lions will practice with the Dolphins on Wednesday and Thursday before facing off in a preseason match at Ford Field on Saturday.
