Morrisons shoppers are worried whether their Christmas orders will arrive on time after the Morrisons supermarket chain was hit with an IT issue that prompted the retailer to offer discounts.
The supermarket chain is offering loyalty cardholders a 10% discount across its stores on Monday and Christmas Eve, as well as discounts on select items to all shoppers, after a glitch in its promotional plans.
The company apologized to customers for a “systemic issue” that prevented many people from accessing MoreCard's lower prices at the checkout, and said some click-and-collect orders were also affected.
A Morrisons spokesperson said: “If a MoreCard price is not registered, we will apply a 10% discount across all of our customers' stores,” adding that the discount will apply until the store closes on Christmas Eve.
Due to Scottish law, the discount does not apply to alcohol, but otherwise applies to the rest of the store.
The spokesperson added that some home delivery orders may be delayed and “affected customers will be contacted directly.” Click and collect customers must wait to receive an email confirming their order is ready for collection before going to store.
The issue also means that More Card customers who have a Fivers coupon, which they receive when they accumulate 5,000 points, can only redeem the coupon in-store and must be manually entered by a store associate. I meant it.
Mr Morrison's website appeared to be down on Monday morning with error messages appearing on some pages, including the login page, but was back up and running as usual by afternoon.
Shoppers have voiced their anger on social media over the 'disruption' at Morrisons, with some saying they missed out on big discounts and others having to cancel Christmas dinners if their orders did not arrive on time. Some people were worried that this might happen.
User X wrote: “I received an email saying there was a problem with the delivery and there would be a delay. Now I can't even log in. I booked this slot months ago, but… [I’m] I am seriously worried that we will run out of food for Christmas! ”
After newsletter promotion
Customers who have been saving up points all year to use in Christmas shops “will be very disappointed at checkout,” said another user.
A spokesperson for the supermarket said, “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers.''
