Uri Moyal, 51, a chief warrant officer in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), died on Thursday after fatally shooting a Palestinian terrorist who stabbed him in the back as he waited in line at a gas station cafe in southern Israel.
Surveillance footage from Aroma Café at the Beit Qama intersection shows the terrorist approaching Moyal and stabbing him. Another customer wearing a striped shirt attacked the terrorist, and Moyal, who was mortally wounded, managed to remove his service pistol from his holster, take aim, and fire at the terrorist, but the terrorist fell to the ground as the customers fled the cafe.
The Israeli government press office further stated that “Shin Bet has identified the terrorist as Fadi Abu Latif, 22, an Israeli from Gaza and living in Rahat. In the video, he is seen stabbing the victim in the back. :50 year old man [sic] Despite being injured, the soldier manages to neutralize the terrorist before he can hurt more people. The soldier later died from his injuries. His courage will be remembered forever. ”
The incident is reminiscent of that of Ali Fard, an armed civilian who was stabbed by a Palestinian terrorist in a shopping mall in 2018. Fuld drew his weapon and opened fire, wounding the terrorist and saving others before dying from his own wounds.
