Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) said Friday that fellow Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has no right to vote to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson (R), let alone vote to expel House Speaker Mike Johnson (R). “We don’t even have the votes to change the name.” La. ).
“So Marjorie Taylor Greene doesn’t have any votes.” Mr. Moskowitz said: John Berman anchors CNN News Central. “She doesn’t have the votes to remove her chair. She doesn’t have the votes to rename her post office.”
In late March, Green introduced a motion calling for Johnson to be removed from office. She later explained her reasons for doing so in a letter to her colleagues, including her Louisiana Republican’s handling of government funding and aid to Ukraine.
“We will not tolerate elected Republican Chairman Mike Johnson serving the Democratic Party and the Biden administration and helping implement their policies that are destroying our country,” Greene said. “He is trying to disrupt the tiny majority of our country by not serving his own Republican conference that elected him.”
“I will not tolerate this type of Republican ‘leadership’ because our future and the future of our children is so at stake,” she later added. “This is a complete capitulation, if not complete and utter out-of-step with Democratic policies that has so infuriated our Republican base that it gives the Republican House majority little reason to vote. .”
In an interview with CNN, Moskowitz said, “I will never allow Marjorie Taylor Greene to stand at the well of the People’s House and give a speech to remove the Speaker of the House. He will be promoted.”
“So if Marjorie Taylor Greene makes that motion, I can’t just sit back and let her do it,” Moskowitz continued.
If Greene passes the motion to remove Johnson, it would be the second time in less than a year that a Republican chairman has been removed from his post. Johnson took on his current position after former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was ousted last October.
The Hill has reached out to Greene’s office.
