Most Democrats oppose efforts to ban non-citizens from voting or to allocate congressional funds only to citizens, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said in a television appearance on Wednesday. Breitbart News Daily.
Roy spoke about the Protecting American Voter Eligibility Act (SAFE Act), which he believes would help solve the ongoing problem of foreign nationals voting in federal elections (which he says is well documented), and would allow anyone to apply to register to vote in every state to prove their citizenship.
But he explained that this issue is Democrats’ greatest weakness.
“So I think this is kind of an Achilles heel for the Democratic Party, because they just voted in Washington to end foreign registration in D.C. elections,” he said, explaining that he was able to secure the support of 52 Democrats.
But he believes 143 Democrats opposed it, while Republicans unanimously supported it.
“That gives you the gist,” he said, explaining that Democrats are unwilling to support a bill that would base congressional appropriations solely on the people.
“We tried to pass a bill to make it clear that congressional seats and quotas are based on nationality, but the Democrats unanimously opposed it,” Roy said. “You can see the political rift here.”

“This issue is critical because Biden is bringing 5 million immigrants into our country, on top of another 2 million defections — tens of thousands of immigrants every day,” the congressman said, noting that there are more than 51 million foreign-born people in the United States.
“I don’t think people realize, but it’s 51 to 5 to 1. There are 51.5 million foreign-born people in this country. That’s the highest ratio in the history of our country,” he said.
“So if you have a green card, if you have a green card here… this applies to them too, right?” host Mike Slater asked. “They can’t vote in federal elections, but they can still fill out forms, right?”
“That’s true,” Roy said, noting that some foreign-born people have become citizens at this point.
“Right now, we don’t have the numbers in front of us,” he said, adding: “We’re talking about foreigners voting, but we don’t want illegal immigrants or green card holders voting in elections.”
“Citizenship matters,” Roy argued.
