Most Dems Will Oppose CR, We Generally Give Members Ability to Do What Will ‘Get Them Re-Elected’

On Bloomberg's “Balance of Power,” Rep. Don Bayer (D-VA) said that almost all of Congressional Democrats will vote against the ongoing resolution as the minority leader (D-NY) (D-NY) hopes, and that “generally, we try to do what they think is right.”

Co-host Kylie Raines asked: “Well, you'll be no vote for this continuous solution, so your leader, Hakeem Jeffries (D-ny), suggests that the entire Democratic caucus should not vote on this law. But, like last week, we've seen that guidance from leadership isn't always going to continue in terms of the actions that President Trump gave during the Congressional Combined Speech. Will you follow that guidance this time, or do you think your colleagues, especially those in the swing district, might actually be forced to vote to keep the government open?”

Beyer replied. “It may be. And certainly, in general, we try to give members of the swing district the right to do what they think they have the right to be re-elected. We hope they will come back. This time, I think there is almost 100% of Hakeem's guidance. Mostly because first of all, it cuts the profits of veterans, cuts medical research, and most importantly, a budget that Donald Trump says he doesn't have to use it already.
