In 2024, a number of bizarre incidents, from terrible pranks to sudden electrocutions in swimming pools, captured national attention.

Hearing about a freak accident that is highly unlikely to happen again leaves audiences transfixed and wondering why it happened.

Below is a list of the deadliest freak accidents of 2024 by Fox News Digital.

Separating a frozen hamburger patty can be deadly

If you've been tasked with cooking frozen hamburgers, you probably know that the most difficult part of cooking is separating the stone-hard patties from each other.

The job turned deadly for Barry Griffiths, 57, when he accidentally stabbed himself with a knife while trying to separate a frozen patty.

Mr Griffiths, from Wales, stabbed himself in the stomach when he tried to cut apart a frozen hamburger with a knife. Officials said Griffiths had a stroke that left him with reduced mobility in one arm, which likely led to the freak accident.

Halloween prank ends in disaster in Tennessee

A Halloween prank went awry in Tennessee when a 12-year-old boy tried to harmlessly scare other children by riding a vehicle.

According to Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) said a group of children was trying to scare hayrides behind some bushes when one of the boys was unexpectedly hit by a tractor.

Police said the boy may have slipped and fallen under the wheels during the freak accident.

“Deputies were told that one of the juveniles may have attempted to jump onto the trailer, slipped and fallen under the wheels, and was found unresponsive.

Skydiver dies after plummeting due to parachute failure

Carolina Muñoz Kennedy, 40, a professional skydiver from Chile, was diving. Boituba, Brazilwhen he fell into difficulty with a parachute in October 2024, according to the news outlet Diario AS.

According to Jam Press, the main parachute malfunctioned and the backup parachute opened, twisting the line.

The Schwartz family of Lawrence Township, New Jersey, mourned the tragic death of their son in October.

Investigators determined that Schwartz was playing with a friend in his backyard when strong winds caused a tree to fall and strike him. Causes fatal injuries.

Police said they are actively investigating the incident.

Five people (three boys and two adults) were electrocuted while cooling off in a backyard pool in Indiana.

A spokesperson for the Logansport Police Department referred the incident to Indianapolis police. fox 59 as an “unforeseen accident.”

Police determined that the wires of the pool pump had been pinched and the protective cover had been damaged. Police said the exposed wire came into contact with the pool water, shocking the five swimmers.

Park ranger dies after falling into rock at Bryce Canyon National Park

Tom Rohrig, a 78-year-old park ranger, fell and hit his head while serving visitors at the annual astronomy festival in Bryce Canyon, Utah, in June, according to the National Park Service (NPS). It is said that he hit a rock.

During the fall, he hit his head on a large stone. The man was found unresponsive, authorities said.

Lorig worked as a registered nurse in the Seattle area for 40 years, according to the NPS. He also worked as a permanent, seasonal, and volunteer park ranger for over 10 years.

Woman dies after being backed into airplane propeller

Amanda Gallagher posed for a photo while backing into a plane's propeller in Kansas in October. Just before 3 p.m. that afternoon, Sedgwick County dispatch received a report of an accident at Cook Field in Derby. KAKE News first reported.

When deputies arrived, they located Gallagher. Gallagher was seriously injured while backing up against the plane's propeller to take photos of people getting on and off the plane, the newspaper reported.

The woman was taken to a hospital in the city, but extremely critical conditionKAKE reported that she later died from her injuries.

The GoFundMe page states, “Amanda Gallagher was kind, adventurous, creative, and beautiful inside and out. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. He will be missed,” the statement read.
