Most Trump Picks Won’t ‘Want to Be Liked’ or Be ‘Responsible’

On Friday's “PBS NewsHour,” new york times Columnist David Brooks said, “There aren't many people like Jim Mattis who would be appointed by President Trump because they want to be liked and want to do a responsible job for the government.'' Ta.

“They're anti-institutional,” Brooks said. “That's the theme of the whole thing, a group of people. And so many people are scandalous because they're outside the bounds of polite society. I mean, people like Jim Mattis who want to be liked and do responsible work for the government. There aren't many people that Trump would appoint. When you pick someone with a sex scandal or a financial scandal, they're totally on your side because they don't have any other path to a career. So they're going to be full Trump supporters. And their mission is to destroy the system.”

He continued: “Now, I happen to think that a lot of our institutions need some kind of disruption. We have a lot of questions about why we can't build subways in this country. Can't we build a fighter jet? Many of these institutions are becoming strained. So we need reform, but we don't need a torch. And we're not talking about reforming the Department of Justice, especially in the attorney general's office. It's not about cleaning out the bureaucracy. This is a huge blow to the neutral judiciary.”
