Mother and son taken into custody after deadly street racing accident in New Jersey

A Staten Island mother and her 20-year-old son were arrested last week after attempting to flee the country. This was in connection with a street racing crash in New Jersey, according to police reports.

The son, Alvi Limani, and his mother, 42-year-old Vilma Vneshta, made a trip to Miami in an effort to escape the aggravated manslaughter charges against Limani. The incident occurred on June 29 when he was reportedly racing a BMW X3 on the Garden State Parkway.

Limani was driving and, along with another driver in a BMW M5, engaged in reckless driving that culminated in a collision with two other vehicles in Middlesex County around 7 PM.

Tragically, two passengers in Limani’s SUV were ejected during the crash. One of them, 20-year-old Albion Hysenaj from Staten Island, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was ultimately pronounced dead.

Others involved in the crash suffered serious injuries but survived the ordeal.

According to prosecutors, Limani and another passenger, 19-year-old Emily Harrington from Staten Island, fled the scene on foot.

Law enforcement captured the mother-son duo near Miami on July 17, following their alleged attempt to leave the U.S. Details about the precise location of their arrest remain unclear.

After spending three weeks in custody in Florida, they were eventually transferred to New Jersey last Wednesday. Footage reportedly shows them being escorted from a plane in handcuffs and leg restraints.

In his booking photo, Limani appeared with a neck brace and a blank expression, while Vneshta had a weary look about her.

On Monday, New Jersey State Police announced that Limani is facing severe charges, including first-degree aggravated manslaughter and second-degree vehicular homicide, among other counts related to the crash and their attempted escape.

Vneshta has been charged with three counts of obstruction.

Additional drivers involved in the racing incident in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, were also arrested, including 23-year-old Jeter Ogando, who faces charges related to vehicular homicide. Harrington faces charges of obstruction and conspiracy as well.
