Mother Charged After Second Child Dies From Suffocation

In March, a North Carolina mother was charged with manslaughter for allegedly suffocating her baby boy while they slept together.

Mackenzie Catlin Reed’s infant twins were found dead in their mother’s bed on October 3, 2023, according to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD). according to To the press release from WPD. The state chief medical examiner ruled that the cause of death was “asphyxiation due to an unsafe sleeping environment due to human rhino/enterovirus (common cold).” Reed was arrested and charged with manslaughter, intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury and negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury in connection with the death.
