Mother Claims Baby Survived After Doctors Said Pregnancy Was Not Viable

Las Vegas Woman’s Child Survives Despite Medical Miscommunication

A woman in Las Vegas has shared a startling story about her pregnancy, revealing that her child survived even after being told by medical professionals that there was no heartbeat and the pregnancy had ended.

Stacey Norris agreed to undergo an abortion, believing her pregnancy had come to a conclusion. However, she later discovered that her baby was actually alive. Since then, she’s spoken out about her experiences, including the abortion procedure, the medications prescribed to her, and the moment she found out her child was still alive. She also cautioned that her story might resonate with others who have faced miscarriage.

Norris has filed a complaint in Clark County against a medical provider, alleging misdiagnosis and that an abortion was performed even though evidence suggested her pregnancy was still ongoing. The lawsuit claims that ultrasounds and blood tests had indicated early signs of pregnancy and raised hormone levels, yet healthcare providers failed to monitor and interpret these results correctly over time.

During various consultations, doctors informed Norris there was no fetal heartbeat and categorized her situation as a missed miscarriage. Based on these reports, she was given options including waiting, taking medications, or having a dilation and curettage procedure. Ultimately, she consented to the abortion after being told her pregnancy was no longer viable.

According to the allegations, Dr. Sheldon Paul of Women’s Health Associates performed the procedure without verifying the viability of the pregnancy or securing sufficient diagnostic confirmation beforehand. The complaint goes on to assert that, even after the surgery, the medical team continued to treat her pregnancy as non-viable and prescribed Cytotec, a drug used to terminate pregnancies.

However, Norris maintains that a check-up at the hospital revealed hormone levels consistent with a continuing pregnancy and an ultrasound showing her baby’s heartbeat, suggesting that the pregnancy was ongoing despite the previous treatment.

“If this could happen to me, it can happen to many other women,” Norris stated, emphasizing her desire for accountability from the medical providers.

The lawsuit accuses the medical professionals of negligence, failing to adhere to the standards of care, and misrepresentation. It asserts that they mishandled diagnostic information and failed to inform Norris properly before proceeding with the abortion and its subsequent care. She claims their actions caused her significant emotional distress and put her pregnancy at risk.

The complaint seeks compensation for psychological harm, medical negligence, and other damages, alleging that the defendants’ conduct did not meet accepted medical standards. The medical professionals involved have denied any wrongdoing, and the case was settled shortly after the opening statements.
