Mother Arrested for Neglecting Daughter at Universal CityWalk

A woman from Florida, Amanda Thorp, 33, has been arrested on charges of child neglect after reportedly leaving her 12-year-old daughter alone at a bar in Universal CityWalk to go drinking elsewhere, authorities stated.

On Saturday night, around 10:30 p.m., the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a missing girl. Deputies responded to the CW Shoreline Bar and discovered Thorp’s daughter visibly upset, crying, and sitting alone on a bar stool.

Witnesses mentioned that something had irritated Thorp, leading her to leave the bar and move to another location along CityWalk. According to the affidavit, when her daughter expressed feeling tired and wanted to return to their hotel, Thorp reacted in frustration, raising her middle finger and departing, leaving the girl by herself.

Authorities later located Thorp on the dance floor of the Red Coconut Club, where she was seen with an alcoholic drink. It’s a bit unsettling, isn’t it? She claimed not to have realized her daughter was missing and thought she had been with her all along. In a twist, she later asserted that her daughter was actually back at their hotel.

Deputies reported Thorp as having bloodshot eyes and an unsteady gait, with a noticeable fruity smell on her breath when they encountered her. Her father came to pick up the young girl afterward.

Thorp has been released on a $2,500 cash bail and has entered a not guilty plea regarding the charges.
