July 29thNumberDuring the race, 34-year-old mother-of-two Jayanne Oliveira swerved into a sound truck parked on the side of the course after another biker got too close to her, reportedly crushing Oliveira when one of the six-foot speakers mounted on top of her car fell on impact just seconds before she crossed the finish line.
The sound truck reportedly fled the scene before police arrived, and authorities are still investigating.
“On behalf of the entire Dubai Bikers team, we mourn the passing of cyclist Jayan Oliveira,” event organisers said in an Instagram post.
The race was organised by Dubai Bikers, who released a statement following the tragic accident.
“The loss of this special person leaves a deep hole in our hearts,” the group said in the post. “May their memories and legacy bring comfort and strength.”
On race day, Oliviera posted a photo to Instagram of herself in cycling gear and with a big smile on her face.
“Sow with gratitude and reap with joy,” she wrote in the caption in Portuguese.
According to the report: US SunOliveira leaves behind twin sons and a husband, who also attended last weekend’s tournament.
