Mother of Murderer Sentenced for Concealing Weapon
A mother involved in a high-profile murder case has been sentenced for her role in the crime. Kiran Kaur, 53, received a three-year prison sentence from Southampton Crown Court in Hampshire, England, for concealing the weapon used to murder 18-year-old Henry Nowak, a British-Polish student, in December 2025. Her son, Vickram Digwa, has already been convicted of the murder and is currently serving time. The court was informed that he stabbed Nowak several times and misled police about the incident.
Digwa falsely claimed that Nowak had assaulted him, leading to the tragic event. Reports indicate that Nowak’s final words included, “I’m not a racist” and “I was stabbed,” suggesting a grim scenario where he was attempting to defend himself in his last moments.
Before law enforcement arrived, the murder weapon—an 8-inch ceremonial knife—was taken away. Kaur was later found guilty of hiding the knife. Following her sentencing, the Crown Prosecution Service remarked that while Kaur had served some time and might not face more imprisonment due to early release laws, her actions post-murder were critical. She concealed the murder weapon to protect her son and obstruct the investigation.
Interestingly, the court noted that despite living in the UK for three decades, Kaur spoke “some English.” However, the judge opted not to issue a deportation order despite her conviction for assisting a criminal.
During the sentencing, Judge William Moosley expressed disappointment, stating that a responsible parent would not have covered up for their child in such circumstances. He argued that if Kaur had acted ethically, she would have urged her son to own up to his actions instead of participating in the cover-up. He pointed out that Digwa had sustained no serious injuries, questioning the justification for his violent actions.
The knife was found later among a collection of Sikh weapons, with DNA tests confirming its role in Nowak’s murder. The judge remarked on Kaur’s lack of remorse and her continued denial of the charges. He emphasized that her involvement in this situation was particularly troubling given that it occurred during a moment of grave danger to Nowak.
Kelly Newman, a representative of the Crown Prosecution Service, shared sentiments for Nowak’s family, who have endured immense grief. She criticized Kaur for obstructing justice to shield her son after a violent act. Those who assist murderers will face consequences, she stated.
On a related note, Kaur’s husband, along with Vickram and another son, Gurpreet, are facing additional charges, including possession of various weapons. Their trial is set to continue next year, and both men are out on bail at this time.
