Mother Charged with Murder of Missing Toddler
Authorities in Alabama have laid murder charges against a mother following the disappearance of her toddler, coinciding with what would have been the child’s third birthday.
Adrian Reed reported her daughter missing from an apartment on Apache Drive on February 16. According to a post on Facebook from the Enterprise Police, they soon concluded that Reed was not being truthful and took her into custody the following day.
“It’s been a 53-day campaign filled with deception, lies, manipulation, and destruction of evidence,” stated Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore during a press conference.
Moore elaborated that investigators believe the little girl has not been seen since Christmas. They reportedly acquired surveillance footage from a neighbor showing Reed wheeling a duffel bag towards a dumpster around 11:30 p.m. The next day, she was captured on video returning to the same dumpster with toys and other personal items.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office has now begun the challenging task of searching the local landfill for the girl’s remains. Sheriff Scott Byrd emphasized that the investigation is far from straightforward.
“The specific bin containing the duffel bag was collected on December 26 and has undergone significant compaction since then,” Byrd explained. “It was moved to a distribution facility and compacted again, before being transported to a landfill where it underwent further processing.”
Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox criticized the mother harshly, stating, “The evidence clearly indicates that Adrian Reed murdered her daughter, discarded her in the trash, and then engaged in deceit and evidence tampering for 53 days prior to reporting her missing.”
Tarbox also mentioned that he believes pursuing the death penalty aligns with community standards regarding the protection of children.
In the closing remarks of the press briefing, Chief Moore expressed that his faith provides him solace amidst the tragedy inflicted upon the innocent child.
“I hold the belief that Genesis’ earthly form is no longer her identity, and she now resides in a far superior place, surrounded by love and compassion beyond our comprehension,” Moore stated.
