Mother of murdered South Carolina teenager says her son loved his 17-year-old cheerleader girlfriend who is now facing charges in his death

Recent reports indicate that a South Carolina family, along with a friend of 16-year-old Trey Wright, has accused him of orchestrating the fight that ultimately led to the death of his girlfriend, Gianna Kistenmacher, who was described as the “Queen Bee” of her cheerleading squad.

Ashley Lindsay, Trey’s mother, shared that her son had only been seeing 17-year-old Kistenmacher for a brief period. Yet, he quickly became infatuated with her, possibly on the path to a dangerous confrontation on June 24th, which resulted in his death.

“He told me just two days before he died that being with Gianna felt like a dream come true,” Lindsay revealed to a news outlet, emphasizing how much he cherished her.

She suggested that Trey might not have been fully aware of the underlying tensions that led to the altercation.

Lindsay also expressed her knowledge of Trey meeting with Kistenmacher and another teen, Raper. She had a feeling he was gearing up for a physical fight.

Friends of Trey indicated that Kistenmacher, whose father is a police officer, sparked an argument with her boyfriend shortly before the shooting incident.

Witnesses recounted that during a heated exchange on a call, Raper gestured threateningly at Kistenmacher’s phone before the situation escalated.

Despite the apparent dangers, both Kistenmacher and Wright thought the boys were just preparing for a fight, not realizing how serious it would become.

“She thought they were going to fight, not that it would end like this,” said Ethan Kirby, an 18-year-old friend of Wright’s, explaining that what began as a childish dispute escalated into something tragic.

Raper, along with other teenagers, drove an hour from Myrtle Beach to confront Wright. Kistenmacher was not in the car with Raper, according to reports from sources close to the investigation.

When the confrontation unfolded, Raper allegedly shot Wright multiple times, leaving him bleeding on the street in front of his girlfriend and others.

The event was captured by one of the teenagers who was later detained in connection with the case.

Lindsay was heartbroken that a dispute over a girl led to such a violent outcome. “Back in my day, if kids had issues, they’d settle them with a fistfight and move on. You didn’t pull out a gun; that just doesn’t make sense,” she lamented.

Kirby highlighted the influence of peer pressure in this tragic sequence of events, noting that Raper had been boasting bravely but faltered when they arrived to face Wright.

Another anonymous classmate mentioned that Kistenmacher often mingled with the beach crowd at Myrtle Beach and seemed well-known in those circles.

Multiple teenagers now face charges related to the murder, with Raper held without bail on charges of murder and illegal possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

Kistenmacher has been charged as an accessory before the fact and was released into her family’s care last week.
