Family Seeks Justice for Rachel Morin
For nearly two years, Rachel Morin’s family has carried a profound sadness after her tragic murder in Maryland, attributed to an illegal immigrant.
On Monday, her family, including her mother Patty Morin, addressed the court, advocating for justice, closure, and dignity as they remembered her life.
“I will ask the judge to honor Rachel’s life and protect her dignity by delivering the justice she deserves,” Patty Morin expressed before the verdict.
She delivered a heartfelt statement that captured her daughter’s essence, emphasizing both her value and the pain left in her wake.
Morin shared with Lawrence Jones that she had contemplated her message since the crime two years ago, penning notes and drafting her impact statement numerous times, each feeling inadequate.
“When you finally sit down to write, you realize how challenging it is… how can you put her life into mere words? How do you convey what this person did to take her away?” she said.
“It’s going to be an incredibly tough day. There’s just no way to avoid that,” she admitted.
Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, an illegal immigrant found guilty of raping and murdering Morin in August 2023, is set to receive sentences for multiple charges, including first-degree murder and rape.
Morin also expressed uncertainty about wanting to hear from her daughter’s killer.
Describing her daughter as a source of “energy,” she noted, “It’s so strange how someone could have so much life and vibrancy, and now we’re faced with such darkness and loss.”
