Illinois Mother Charged with Murdering Two-Year-Old Son

A heartbreaking case from Illinois has prosecutors contemplating a potential connection to the Lindsay Clancy trial. Corie Walsh is facing accusations of murdering her two-year-old son, Barrett, in Frankfort, Illinois. Senior correspondent Mike Tobin shared unsettling details from the investigation, which includes claims about the defendant’s remarks to law enforcement.

Reports indicate that Walsh, 40, who had a notable fixation on the Lindsay Clancy case, sang a well-known song from “The Wizard of Oz” during police questioning. Allegedly, she expressed to officers that she believed her son was the “devil” and the “anti-Christ,” and she even sang “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” as depicted in court documents.

She faces three counts of first-degree murder related to the death of Barrett Walsh, whose body was found hanging in the basement of their suburban Chicago residence.

On September 1, Barrett was discovered by his siblings upon returning home from school. When police arrived, they found a neighbor attempting to perform CPR on him.

While engaging with detectives, Walsh reportedly went on an erratic tirade, intermittently singing her own rendition of “Follow the Yellow Brick Road.”

Walsh’s attorney, Andrea Lyon, argued that her client was in a “psychotic” state and dismissed any link between Walsh’s interest in the Clancy case and the tragic incident. Lyon stated, “She was psychotic. And this is not a first-degree murder.”

In the lead-up to her son’s death, Walsh had become deeply invested in the Clancy trial, wherein a Massachusetts mother is accused of killing her three children. The attorney noted that Walsh had texted friends about the Clancy case on the morning of the alleged murder.
