Mother siphoned son's blood to fake his illness

A Minnesota mother has been sentenced to 39 years in prison for allegedly subjecting her three children to severe abuse that led to serious health issues.

Jordan Nicole Borders, 34, reportedly inflicted five years of torment on her kids, leaving them in dire conditions. The severity of her actions was highlighted by the judge, who stated that such crimes are among the most brutal he has ever witnessed.

Concerns were raised by medical professionals in 2022 when her young son was found to have dangerously low hemoglobin levels. Further investigations revealed that her other children were also suffering from unexplained illnesses, prompting donations from the public for their medical care.

Notably, her 8-year-old daughter had to use a hearing aid, and her 11-year-old son had been in a cast for over two years, as he was believed to have a condition affecting his bones.

During the investigation, the children described harrowing experiences, including their mother drawing blood from one of them with a syringe and seeking help online for end-of-life care. They also recounted her pretending to be sick before medical appointments.

The abuse described included using belts and cords for punishment, threatening them with starvation, and even making them stand outside without clothes if they didn’t obey her orders.

Throughout this ordeal, Borders was receiving financial support from non-profits, taking advantage of her children’s fake medical conditions.

The prosecutor emphasized that the medical problems faced by the children were a direct result of their mother’s actions, asserting that Borders misused her parental authority and robbed her children of a normal childhood.

Previously, Borders had been convicted of attempted murder and child torture, among other charges. As the state attorney general expressed, the evidence presented was devastating, showcasing profound trauma inflicted on the children.

By May 2022, the 9-year-old was placed in protective custody, followed by the removal of the other two children in July. Borders lost parental rights over all three children.

In a statement made to the court, Borders’ mother expressed relief at the prospect of eventually seeing her grandchildren again.
