Mother who took her family's lives in murder-suicide embezzled $660K from her job

A New Hampshire mother, who tragically took the lives of her husband and two children, was under investigation for allegedly embezzling over $660,000 from her employer, according to her former boss.

Emily Long had reportedly been depositing company funds into her personal bank account for more than two years. I mentioned this to WCVB.

The police report in the case was filed on August 11, just a week before the tragic incident took place.

“I felt compelled to contact law enforcement,” her boss, Fisher, stated. “There were numerous handwritten checks deposited into her account.”

Fisher had been reviewing the company’s finances with the accountant back in June.

Since January 2023, more than $660,000 had gone missing. Long’s husband, Ryan, had been battling glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, making the situation even more distressing.

In June, the owner of the chicken franchise questioned Emily about the missing funds, but she offered no explanation, per Fisher.

He requested a three-month bank statement, which she finally provided on August 5, but it was incomplete and appeared altered.

“I tried to be understanding given my husband’s condition,” Fisher explained about his hesitance before contacting the authorities.

Fisher admitted he didn’t know where the money had gone. Investigators are still trying to determine if the embezzlement played a role in Emily’s decision to commit this horrific act.

Before the incident, Long had posted a video on TikTok indicating she was preparing for her husband’s impending death and expressed feelings of deep depression.

On August 18, she shot Ryan and their two eldest sons, Parker, eight, and Ryan, six, in Madbury, New Hampshire, before turning the gun on herself, as police reported.

The couple’s three-year-old child remained unharmed and was found alive at the scene.

Fisher, reflecting on the tragedy, expressed no intention of pursuing legal action to recover the stolen funds, stating instead that his focus is on supporting the child’s future.

“Everything left should go to that kid. He deserves it all. It’s not his fault. He didn’t cause this tragedy,” Fisher added.
