St. Louis Mother Charged with Multiple Felonies After Restaurant Incident

A mother from St. Louis is facing several felony charges following an incident at a sushi restaurant in Kirkwood, Missouri. Police report that she discharged a firearm during a heated exchange with restaurant staff last Wednesday evening, around 8:30 p.m.

According to local reports, the suspect, 31-year-old Aaliyah N. Moorhead, expressed to law enforcement that she felt disrespected by the restaurant employees while dining with her 9-year-old child.

Moorhead claimed she used the translation feature on her AirPods to understand comments made by the cooks, which she interpreted as racial slurs against her family in Spanish. Besides her complaints regarding order issues, there seems to have been friction with the server after an order modification was suggested.

Things escalated when Moorhead reportedly threw a bowl of soup at the server, impacting him and patrons close by. Alarmingly, when the server attempted to place a chair between them for safety, she threw the chair instead.

At this point, Moorhead produced a 9mm Glock handgun, aiming it at the server and threatening him. In a distressing moment, her child was positioned between her and the server during the incident. Just before firing, she allegedly stated, “I’m going to get hit.”

Though the bullet missed its target, it pierced through a refrigerator and struck a wall. Fortunately, no one was harmed in this startling confrontation.

Following the situation, the chaotic scene was captured on the restaurant’s security cameras, which led to Moorhead being identified along with her child and another adult female in the SUV they were driving.

The St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Moorhead with serious offenses including first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of her child, in addition to first-degree criminal damage to property.

As of Tuesday morning, Moorhead remains in custody at the St. Louis County Justice Center, with a cash-only bond set at $150,000. A trial date has not yet been established.
