A mother in Kentucky was taken into custody following her discovery that her husband had been abusing their three-month-old daughter. This revelation came as she viewed footage from security cameras while at work, according to police reports.
Carleena Webb confronted her husband, Shaun Webb, who is 36, when she returned home on August 21. Rather than taking immediate action to protect her child, she decided to return to work, as noted by authorities.
Shaun Webb reportedly confessed to suffocating their daughter by covering her mouth and nose. He claimed it wasn’t meant to harm but rather to “deprive her of oxygen” as a means of “training the behavior.”
The 33-year-old mother faced charges of first-degree criminal abuse for leaving her child under such dangerous circumstances. She did not inform the police about the abuse or seek medical attention for her daughter.
Family members of the couple, living outside Kentucky, alerted the police about the alleged abuse and shared video evidence. Sheriff’s Major Philip Ridgel commented on the situation, emphasizing the urgent response to remove the children from harm’s way.
Shaun Webb admitted to the abuse during police questioning, and footage allegedly shows him slapping the baby while she lay on the ground, crying. He even made a troubling comparison, suggesting that raising children is akin to training dogs, saying, “You have to train them and set boundaries.” His daughter’s crying seemed to irritate him, describing it as a trigger akin to “nails on a chalkboard.”
He reportedly recorded incidents of covering the child’s face for periods of ten to thirteen seconds. Following the interrogation, he was arrested and taken to Boone County Jail, facing ten counts of first-degree criminal abuse.
Three days after the husband’s arrest, Carleena Webb was also arrested and taken to the same facility.
